Circus of Circus at the House of Yes!

Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at the House of Yes! October 1st through October 16th!

Adapted from George Orwell’s anti-totalitarian novella Animal Farm, Circus of Circus is presented as a darkly humorous satire on the performance industry told through the strife of entertainers in a corrupt circus.

Set in the middle of the Great Depression, the show combines dazzling musical theatrics and circus spectacles set to original parodies of jazz standards. The multi-talented cast of contortionists, aerialists, acrobats, actors, burlesque dancers, and fire performers parallel the characters of the original Animal Farm as they overthrow their ringmaster and band together to form their own troupe where “all performers are equal- but some are more equal than others.”

Written and Produced by Kae Burke of House of Yes and Lady Circus. Directed and choreographed by Rachel Klein (Princes of Darkness, Hound, Go-Go Killers!) with a live vintage jazz ensemble directed by Benjamin Ickies of This Ambitious Orchestra.

The all-star cast includes seasoned performers of the circus and stage including Benjamin Cerf of Reverend Billy’s Choir, Ashley Monroe of Silky Sirens Burlesque, Shannon Turner, master acrobat Ryan Shinji Murray, fire performer Evgenia Radilova, aerial-contortionist Natasha Ortiz, and Eric Schmalenberger of Rachel Klein Productions as well as David Slone, Ethan O'Hara, Valton Jackson, Angela Harriel and the Love Show Dancers.

Show Dates: Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from October 1st through October 16th. At the House of Yes Theatre.

342 Maujer Street, Brooklyn, NY. L Train to Grand Ave, walk one block East on Grand, South on Waterburry, and East on Maujer.

Princes of Darkness Opens at Theater for the New City

PRINCES OF DARKNESS, a Razors Edge Production.

It's the world premiere solo play presented by The Dream Up Festival, at Theater for the New City, 155 1st Avenue, New York, NY 10003. Shows begin August 8, 2010.

PRINCES OF DARKNESS is written and performed by Bill Connington, directed/choreographed by Rachel Klein, with sound design/music by Sean Gill, Lighting Design by Kia Rogers, and Stage Managed Naomi Anhorn. PR by Emily Owens... PR. Photos by Beau Allulli.

The play is a blending of the Hamlet, Oedipus, and Dracula stories. Your host for the journey is none other than Lucifer. Satan's question is, "If God is so great, why is the world such a mess?" He proposes an unusual and extreme remedy for the problem.

The mood of the evening? A shadowy dungeon full of sultry glamor, and a hint of whiskey in the air. The sounds? Tons of Phillip-Glass-sounding stuff, with hints of spaghetti western melodrama a-la-Ennio-Morricone. The movement/dance? The well-known mixture of Klein irony, energy, and variety of dance genres. This world premiere is brought to you by the guy who presented ZOMBIE, the award-winning Off-Broadway play, adapted from the novella by Joyce Carol Oates. (www.zombietheplay.com). And the gal who brought you La Enferma. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIWAKZQdLiU)
